The Brooks family of Northern California bought their M15 in the early part of 2007. When they first saw her, they almost turned away because the dark blue bottom paint gave her a... well, a horrific appearance. Putting first look aside and closely inspecting her they found the rigging, rudder and all of the sailing systems to be in near new condition. You can see that in the upper right photo of the original main sail, still crisp and in great shape.
She was originally owned by a person in Southern California. Changed hands but stayed in the So-Cal area, that owner never even got her in the water, then the Brooks brought her North and now she is fully utilized as the family sailboat.
The gelcoat is weathered but will soon shine with some teenage elbow grease and little else is needed with exception of getting rid of the bottom paint that seems to detract from her overall, on the trailer, appearance.
The photos are from a late summer (2007) sail on Lake Natoma and a Christmas eve (2007) outing to Lake Berryessa, near the famed wine grape growing region of Napa, California. Not shown is what was experienced during the sail as told by Karsten Brooks; "What a great sailing day. The sky was painfully blue, not a cloud anywhere and there were whitecaps and blowing spray out in the main body of the lake. We short tacked out of Spanish Flat Marina and wound up with the main reefed and perfectly powered in the gusts with both of us on the rail. I'm 6'5" and 250 and my son Sam, is over 200 pounds as well. Plenty of wind and the Montgomery handled it with precision."
The lower row, third from the left picture, was taken in a protected cove; aboard is Karsten, wife Nancy, Aaron (son), Mariel (daughter) and Solomon (son). Not very well trimmed with all that weight in the cockpit but a great island for the kids to use for a quick dip. Taking the photos is Aaron's wife Natalie. The Natoma photos are from their camera and Sam took the Lake Berryessa pictures.
