The Light Air Drifter (AKA blooper) is made from thin soft nylon panels. The sheets are usually a light cordage. The tack (bottom) of the sail attaches to the forward tack fitting on the foredeck. The head (top) of the jib is connected to the jib shackle and the sail is bent on with only one or sometimes two brass hanks near the head to protect the jib halyard against chafe from the sheave at the mast head as the sail sweeps across the deck. And with just a couple of hanks, the sail fills easier and provides a fuller draft. Drifters are flown with or without the main, to power the boat in the slightest of puffs.
