She was built in 1992 for Jerry Merchant.  Jerry was at the time a professor at Southern Oregon Community College.  Following his desires he created a side line business called Southern Oregon Sailboats. The company represented the entire line of Montgomery Boats and other brands as well.  With all of the brands and models to choose from Jerry chose to have this M-17 built.  Special ordered from Jerry Montgomery, this is one of the very last to be produced before Jerry closed the doors on Montgomery Marine Products Company.
Dry sailed quite often in the summer months at upper Klamath Lake in Oregon until she was sold in 2003 to Bill Lamica (your Webmaster) who added a few nice touches and then resold again in the fall of 2005 to Tom Smith her current provider.  She is in excellent condition. The hull is clean,  the sails are crisp, even the original Jerry Montgomery Decal is in perfect shape.  Tom is a long time contributor to the MSOG and home ports in Washington State.

Very well equipped and in excellent condition.  These photos deserve to be enlarged to see the details of this classic.  Above right is Jane Van Winkle, Tom's sailing partner, looking serious, yet relaxed at the helm as Tom enjoys the comfort of the cabin. Sure is nice to be able to trust another at the helm.

Many trailer sailors don't opt to spend the money on a good cover, and that's to bad as most of the grit and grime on lots of trailerable sailboats comes from storage. One real advantage of a UV resistant cover is the reduction of oxidation of the Gelcoat, helping to keep the topsides nice and shiny.
