1979 Montgomery 17 - Hull Number 313
In just a few years, she will turn 30.  A close inspection of this craft and you'll see she is in very good condition. On the left is the whole crew; at the helm is Jason Thompson and with him for the day is first mate and wife, Bridget and the swabbies; Wyatt, Tucker and Ellie.  Her prior owner was Sean and Mari Jo Mulligan. They bought her and then after a short time found their dream boat.  When they purchased their M-23 (album here ) this craft was sold to the Thompsons. Very little needed to be done to turn her into a great sailboat. Some major cleaning, a little fiberglass on the cabin sole and lots of elbow grease to bring the shine back to the hull.

"Just came in the door from a series of races aboard Jason's M17.  Oh Boy!  First time any of the locals have seen an M17 really strut her stuff! Race committee reported gusts of 34 knots, yes knots, with sustained winds of 28 knots. One Catalina 25 backed out at the start as did one Santana 23. Another Santana 23 ended up not ready in time. That left us on Jason's M17, a Catalina 25 and a Holder 20 brochure. We smoked the 25 by over four minutes, scratch!. The Holder beat us by 2 corrected. Then the race committee chase boat announced that the last boat to go around the leeward mark (us) had to sail an additional 300 yards than the 1st boat (Holder) because the mark was blowing downwind! Taking that into consideration we were probably right there in the hunt for a bullet. I think the old Monty made a few jaws to drop!  Meanwhile, we were having so much fun we were just smiles and laughs the whole way. bashing into three foot waves all the way back. At one point the cockpit looked like a bathtub that was 1/3 full. It was probably the most fun we've had sailing in many years.  I recall at one point where one of the Santana guys was on the radio yelling "go fishboats"! (fishboats being what the local go fast guys have nicknamed the lapstrake hulled Montys).  What an outstanding boat! Neither of us, although working our butts off on the tiller and the main to keep her from rounding, ever felt out of control and were disappointed when any further races for the day were called off"

Oh well,  everyone makes it home in time for the Superbowl that way.
