" Pugsley "
1977  Montgomery 17 - Hull Number 259
Next boat was a Kolbri 12 day sailor that had had a better rig and was less like a bath tub and was actually on a trailer,  that was when I was 16.  At 24 and married we bought an abandoned Ranger 23 and spent one and a half years putting her back together for Lake Superior sailing.  With the arrival of our first child we decided to take some time off of Lake Superior sailing and bought the Compac for day sailing and the occasional over night.  We decided we liked trailer sailing but the Compac just didn't have enough room so then we bought the Monty 17 just this last summer (2007).  I did take a short sailing class shortly after we bought the Ranger 23; I wanted to have some "big" boat handling experience before heading out on Lake Superior.  The class was really worthwhile and fun.
.
My first sailboat was a Super Sea Snark that started life as a display for Pepsi products (remember those).  It has a lateen sail that of course had the Pepsi logo on it and the boat was filled with ice and cans of Pepsi.  At the end of the weekend I talked to the grocery store and was able to buy the boat for $200.  I was 14 at the time.
We have completed a few boat projects, including;  Rebed all deck fittings and refurbishing the cast iron keel. I also had to find and repair an annoying leak and added a new mainsail to her inventory. We daysail and spend a few nights on the hook when we can. Our home sailing grounds is Minnesota.
