By a stroke of good-fortune, Tony Kozlik the owner of Joken II saw their craft on this Photo Site and have been kind enough to give the following description and the above Catalina anchored photo:
"Joken II is named after our children: JOanne and KENneth. It is the second boat so named so that is the reason for the 2. We made it a superscript 2 because at that time AMERICA3 was one of the America's Cup contenders. We have owned the boat since 1991 and are the second owners. I did considerable work to get the wood on the boat in shape. A custom feature is a teak bow platform with a collapsing ladder that is handy for getting ashore at lakes like Lake Powell where we often spend the night with the bow nosed into a sand dune. Another unusual feature is inside the cockpit controls for the 4 cycle, 8 horsepower electric start outboard. A single lever throttle and gear shift is not that unusual, but we also have push-pull cable steering for the outboard. Push the stick forward and you go to port. Pull the stick back and you go to starboard. A recent change was the replacement of the drum brakes on the trailer with disc brakes. These days we mostly keep the boat in dry storage at Lake Pleasant with the mast up and ready to go sailing with a modest amount of effort. We're members of the Lake Pleasant Sailing Club and enjoy the club activities".
Joken II was spotted and photographed by Sean and Mari Jo Mulligan, ( Hull Number 83). They were on a road trip to Phoenix on Christmas eve 2005 when they stopped by Lake Pleasant to see if there were any M-23's. They found three. This one and two others, Native Dancer and Pancho's Gato Sereno that are now available on the Photo Site.
